Encyclopedia > Go Go dancer
This article is about dancers. For articles with alternate meanings, see: Go go (disambiguation).

A Go-Go dancer is a female/male erotic dancer who is scantily-clad and usually wears Go-Go boots. It comes from the French à gogo, meaning galore or aplenty.

Go-Go dancers often dance on stages in an erotic revue, on elevated platforms or in bird cages above the crowd in clubs, bars or discothèques, to set the tone or increase the energy of a dance floor.

In Thailand and some other Asian countries, go-go bars in the form of an erotic revue are popular, and the dancers there are often available to be bar fined by customers.

An example of a Go-Go dancer in the 1960s is Goldie Hawn on the popular TV series Laugh-In.

See: Whisky A Go-Go for an article about the famous Go-Go nightclub in West Hollywood, California.
