Goans is the term used to describe the people of Goa on the west coast of India. "Goanese" is considered to be incorrect usage, and offensive by some. Goans comprise a mixed Hindu, Catholic (and a growing Muslim) population. Parts of the state bear a strong Iberian influence, because of the 451 years Portuguese rule of part of the region.
