Golden Glades is a census-designated place located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 32,623.


It is the location for a major highway interchange of the same name which connect the Florida Turnpike, Interstate 95, US 441, state road 9, and the Palmetto Expressway.


As of 2003, this CDP was incorporated into the city of Miami Gardens.


Geography

Golden Glades is located at 25°54'46" North, 80°11'52" West (25.912771, -80.197688)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.9 km˛ (5.0 mi˛). 12.7 km˛ (4.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.20% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 32,623 people, 9,826 households, and 7,281 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 2,560.1/km˛ (6,635.0/mi˛). There are 10,540 housing units at an average density of 827.1/km˛ (2,143.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 23.38% White, 65.29% African American, 0.28% Native American, 1.81% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.92% from other races, and 6.24% from two or more races. 17.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 9,826 households out of which 44.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% are married couples living together, 24.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.9% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.23 and the average family size is 3.72.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 31.1% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.8 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $30,841, and the median income for a family is $33,577. Males have a median income of $25,036 versus $21,409 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $12,341. 20.9% of the population and 18.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 25.4% of those under the age of 18 and 24.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Turnpike started using this system long before Florida's interstates were on the system, but originally used a sequential system, and then a hybrid where adjacent exit numbers differed by 4 south of SR 60 (exit 60 at the time) and 5 north of SR 60.
