Goldenrod City is the largest city in the Johto region in the Pokémon game. It is Johto's rough equivalent to Saffron City in Kanto. There are plenty of things to do in this city. The Gym Leader here is Whitney, a trainer who specializes in Normal-type Pokémon. It is rumored that Ruby in Pokemon Adventures lives in the city. Team Rocket will start coming into the city as the game progresses. After players win their 7th badge, Team Rocket will take over the Radio Tower; and its broadcasts will all be directed to contact Giovanni. Bill has family here in Goldenrod City and will not be at the Sea Cottage in the Gold and Silver versions. The Name Rater is also here, too. Also, the egg one received from Professor Elm in Violet City should hatch into a Togepi within the city if carried within the main party during the trip to Goldenrod. It is based on Osaka For other meanings of Johto , see Johto (disambiguation). ...

Goldenrod City Underground An underground alley, this is a home to curious shops and Pokémon Trainers waiting to battle. The entrances to the underground are located in the northwest and southwest corners of the city. There is a second part to the underground where Team Rocket will hold the radio director hostage and where players will fight their Gold/Silver rival again. Amazingly enough, the exit to the second part of the underground will be in the basement of the Goldenrod Department Store. The TRBase has 3 switches, to be turned on/off in a certain order. Once you enter the base, your Rival will enter the area, and challenge you. After the battle, there will be 3 Rocket Grunts guarding the switches. Beat them, and find the combo. To reset everything, go in and out of the Base. As you explore the multiple chambers created, there will be Burglars and items scattered throughout. Once you finish the labyrinth, you will find another door guarded by a female Grunt. Here, defeat her, throw the Emergency, open the door, and advance into the part below the mall. Once you are here, you can ascend the stairs to collect the Amulet Coin, and complete the spiral. At the end you will find the true Director. After this, you will be granted steady access to the entire Radio Tower, and the Labyrinth will be constantly open.
Game Corner Unlike the game corner of the Red/Blue/Yellow versions, this Game Corner is not affiliated with Team Rocket. There are the classic slot machines here and the new "card flip game" is introduced.
