Officially Good Hope Mountain but commonly known as Mount Good Hope, this is one of the principal summits of the Pacific Ranges of the southern Coast Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. It stands immediately west of Chilko Lake, the highest peak on the massif rising between that lake's southern arms. Its name is not directly from the Cape of Good Hope but rather from a ship named for it, the armoured cruiser HMS "Good Hope" which sank off the coast of Chile in the Battle of Coronel, November 1, 1914. The mission of Hope Mountain is to work with abandoned adolescents living in situations of hopelessness and imminent risk, equipping them with the emotional, spiritual, and professional traits and skills that they will need to become fulfilled and productive members of society.
The Hope Mountain also hopes to provide a model which will be duplicated throughout Latin America and other countries of the world, and to help millions of destitute youngsters by increasing awareness of the problem and providing the example of a viable and sustainable solution for our world.
We hope to be useful for the publishing of the new handbook and put ourselves at the entire disposal of all Rotarians for any clarification or additional information that may be required.
