Murrow, and his dedicated staff -headed by his co-producer Fred Friendly and reporter Joe Wershba in the CBS newsroom - defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to discredit the tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his anti-communist crusade to root out treasonous elements within the government. A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist.
