Goosenecks State Park is a state park in the state of Utah in the United States. It overlooks a deep meander of the San Juan River. Millions of years ago, the Monument Upwarp forced the river to carve incised meanders over 1,000 feet (305 meters) deep as the surrounding landscape slowly rose in elevation. Eroded by water, wind, frost, and gravity, this is truly a magnificent viewpoint. Download high resolution version (1600x1200, 754 KB) Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name. ...

Goosenecks State Park is undeveloped for the most part. Primitive campsites with picnic tables are scattered back from the edge of the cliff, and vault toilets are available. Campers are advised to bring their own water, food, and other necessary gear. Lucky travelers may catch a glimpse of kayaks or rafts floating down the San Juan River. At Mile 44 along the river, east and downstream from the Goosenecks, is the Honaker Trail. Well known to geologists, this trail was constructed by gold seeker Augustus Honaker in 1894. It is a treacherous two-mile (3.2 kilometer) long 1,200-foot (366-meter) descent "not fit for stock, and supplies had to be lowered by rope near the bottom." Honaker found very little gold in the river, just enough to make a ring for his wife. View from overlook onto San Juan River External links
