Korman was born in Montreal, Quebec. He grew up in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where in the seventh grade, his language arts teacher was a track and field coach. At a loss for what to do, the teacher simply allowed the students to work on whatever they wanted for the rest of the year. For Korman, this resulted in the manuscript for This Can't Be Happening at Macdonald Hall, the first book in his Bruno and Boots series. It was published a year and a half later by the Scholastic Press, when Korman was 14 years old. Korman went on to publish many more books, including No Coins, Please and, in the Bruno and Boots series, Go Jump in the Pool and The War with Mr. Wizzle This Cant Be Happening at Macdonald Hall!
