Gorham is a village located in Jackson County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 256.


On June 15, 1999, a senior named George Morber Senior and his grown daughter, Carolyn Frederick, were both murdered by a serial killer named Angel Maturino Resendiz.


Geography

Gorham is located at 37°43'1" North, 89°29'9" West (37.716897, -89.485804)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.2 km˛ (1.2 mi˛). 3.2 km˛ (1.2 mi˛) of it is land and 0.81% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 256 people, 101 households, and 69 families residing in the village. The population density is 81.0/km˛ (210.2/mi˛). There are 116 housing units at an average density of 36.7/km˛ (95.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 98.44% White, 0.00% African American, 1.56% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 101 households out of which 38.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% are non-families. 28.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.16.


In the village the population is spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.4 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $22,750, and the median income for a family is $30,000. Males have a median income of $33,333 versus $15,625 for females. The per capita income for the village is $11,739. 26.8% of the population and 19.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 38.0% of those under the age of 18 and 15.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
