Gorse Covert is a part of the town of Birchwood in England. It was formerly site 6 of the Royal Ordnance factory at Risley. It is now a thriving residential area with a mixture of good quality housing. It has a pub, the "Poacher", school and local Spar shop, and is served by buses to Birchwood(a 15 minute journey) and Warrington (a 45 minute journey) at frequent intervals. It is very close to Junction 11 on the M62, giving easy access to Manchester, Liverpool, and the Northwest. It is two miles from the Birchwood Centre, which has a supermarket, rail station, shopping mall, surgery, and dentist. During 1983-84 an area of the covert was covert laid and in 1985-86 a new perimeter fence was erected.
Privetts Covert was kindly donated to the Quorn in 1985 by Mrs Joan Crossfield.
In 1984/85 the covert was coppiced and an area of thorn was laid, whilst in 1986 the boundaries were re-fenced and the road side hedge was cut.

Located to the south east of junction 11 on the M62, Gorse Covert and Pestfurlong Moss are sandwiched between the A574 (Birchwood Way) and Gorse Covert housing estate.
Gorse Covert Mounds is more recent, and consists of a mid 1970’s landscape project with mixed habitats, developed on spoil mounds resulting from the demolition of the Risley Royal Ordnance Factory.
The mounds are an important part of the local landscape and serve as a buffer between domestic housing in Gorse Covert and the industrial units and motorway to the north and west.
