Gosford City Council is a Local Government Area of the Australian state of New South Wales. It is located approximately midway between Sydney and Newcastle and includes a moderately densely-populated coastal strip that extends from the Hawkesbury River northward to Forresters Beach (including the towns of Killcare, MacMasters Beach, Avoca, Terrigal and Wamberal), several inland towns and residential areas (Kincumber, Erina, Gosford, Wyoming, Woy Woy) and an extensive sparsely-populated region to the west that is largely native bush.


Gosford City Council covers an area of 1,028.19 square kilometres and had an estimated population of 162,533 in June 2003.


Together with Wyong Shire Council, it forms a region known as the Central Coast of NSW.

The city of Gosford covers an area of 1,029 square kilometres, stretching east to the Tasman Sea, south to the Hawkesbury River, west to the Judge Dowling Range, and north to meet the Cessnock and Wyong Shires on a border through Kulnura, Lisarow and Forresters Beach.
Council's Charter, under the NSW Local Government Act, is to properly manage, develop, protect, restore and conserve the environment of Gosford City in a manner that is consistent with and promotes the principles of ecologically sustainable development.
Gosford City Council comprises ten Councillors who are elected for a four year term to direct and control the affairs of the Council, in accordance with the Local Government Act.
