Nevertheless, the Crown, personified by the Governor, continues to symbolise the ongoing rule of law and the unity of the State, irrespective of the rise and fall of governments.
The Governor's direct relationship to The Queen, which is independent of that of the Governor-General, reflects the sovereignty of South Australia within the Australian Federation.
Pending the appointment of a Governor or in the event of the Governor's absence from the State or incapacity, the official functions of Governor would be performed by the Lieutenant-Governor acting either as Administrator or the Governor's Deputy, depending on the circumstances.
