Graham Masterton (b. January 16, 1946) is a best-selling British horror author. Originally editor of Mayfair and the British edition of Penthouse, Graham Masterton's first novel, The Manitou was released in 1976. This was later adapted for film. Further works garnered critical acclaim, including a Special Edgar award by the Mystery Writers of America for Charnel House and a Silver Medal by the West Coast Review of Books for Mirror. He is also the only non-French winner of the prestigious Prix Julia Verlanger for his novel Family Portrait, an imaginative reworking of the Oscar Wilde novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. Not one, but two Graham Masterton books were released at the end of this year.
Masterton's second novel of the year, A Terrible Beauty, is another murder mystery, this one set in Cork, Ireland.
Masterton's novels are generally such a pleasure to read because he is able to conjure a richly detailed world for the reader to lose herself in, and this novel is no exception.

It may well be to do with the fact that the much-hyped special effects of the time have been well and truly superceded by modern computer technology, and the film is also much less graphic than the splatter/slasher movies that followed it in the eighties and nineties.
Because, returning to the discussion with Graham, it's generally acknowledged that he is the foremost exponent in the horror genre when it comes to mythology and the creation of demonic entities.
Dammit, story!' Graham Masterton is a Story Teller of the first calibre - and if this is your first introduction to the man and his work, you're in for a treat.
