PetPlace.com - Article: Choosing a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (701 words)
Vendeen is an area characterized by rough terrain, thick underbush and lots of brambles.
The larger dog of this breed was referred to as the grand basset griffon vendeen and little effort was made to separate the petit and grand versions until the late 1800s.
By the early 1900s, separate breed standards were developed but it was not until 1950 that the grand basset griffon vendeen was considered a separate breed from the petit basset griffon vendeen.
