Grand Isle is a town located in Grand Isle County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,955.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 91.0 km² (35.1 mi²). 42.8 km² (16.5 mi²) of it is land and 48.2 km² (18.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 53.00% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 1,955 people, 772 households, and 572 families residing in the town. The population density is 45.7/km² (118.4/mi²). There are 1,047 housing units at an average density of 24.5/km² (63.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.54% White, 0.20% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.59% from two or more races. 0.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 772 households out of which 32.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.9% are non-families. 20.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.91.
