Grand Slam is a general sports term applied when achieving something special. The term originated in bridge, but has come to be applied to remarkable feats in many different sports, especially winning all of a sport's "major" events in a given year. Generally a "Grand Slam" is associated with achieving at least four feats simultaneously or in succession; achievements of three of a kind are typically termed Triple Crowns or hat-tricks instead. Bridge (card game) may mean: Contract bridge, the most common form of Bridge. ... The Triple Crown is a term sometimes used to describe the three-tiered crown or tiara formerly used by popes. ... In sports, a hat-trick (more often rendered in North America as hat trick, without the hyphen) is associated with achieving something in a group of three. ...

  • Grand slam (baseball), a home run with all the bases occupied
  • Grand Slam (cyclo-cross), winning the following titles in the same calendar year: World and National Championships, the Superprestige, the GvA Trophy, and holding the No. 1 spot on the UCI rakings.
  • Grand Slam (tennis) discusses the variations, including True Grand Slam, Career Grand Slam, Golden Slam and Small Slam.
  • Grand Slam of golf, winning the following four tournaments in the same year: The Masters, US Open, The British Open, PGA Championship
  • A Grand Slam can completed in two ways in rugby union:
    • In the Rugby Union Six Nations Championship, a grand slam is where one team beats all their opponents during the Six Nations Championship
    • A touring team manages to beat all four home nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland).

  • In NASCAR, the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, at the 1984 championship banquet, announced a $1,000,000 bonus, which ran from 1985 until 1997, if a driver won a small slam of three of the four majors: The Daytona 500 (richest), Winston 500 (the fastest -- now Aaron's 499), Coca-Cola 600 (the longest), and the Southern 500 (the oldest -- race discontinued after 2004 after Ferko lawsuit settlement).   • Grand Slam Champion of Professional Wrestling, winning the three major singles heavyweight championships and the Tag Team championships during a wrestler's career.
  • In the Philippine Basketball Association, winning the Grand Slam is winning all 3 conferences at one calendar year. After the 2004-05 season, the league shifted to a 2-conference format; so starting the 2005-06 season, the grandslam will now be won when a team wins the 2 conferences at one calendar year. This definition has been expanded to other basketball tournaments such as the UAAP and the NCAA (Philippines), where a team needs to win three (instead of four) consecutive tournaments.
