The Grand Turk is a three-masted 6th rate frigate, well known as the H.M.S. Indefatigable from the TV series Hornblower (and also as the French ship Papillon). It was built primarily as an action vehicle for the international TV and film industry. Nowadays the tall ship is used mainly in sailing events, for corporate or private charter, and for receptions in its spacious saloon or on its deck. The Grand Turk was built in Marmaras, Turkey in 1996 for the price of 2 or 9 million £. It is an authentic replica, based on historical drawings, of the frigate Blanford, the same type that took part in the Battle of Trafalgar. The deck is lined with cast iron smooth-bore cannons, as in Horatio Nelson's days. But this type of ship was not tall enough to be a ship-of-the-line and fight in the 'line of battle'. The Grand Turk is a replica of a three-masted 6th rate frigate, well known as the HMS Indefatigable from the TV series Hornblower, although the historical Indefatigable was a much bigger ship.
She is an authentic replica, based on historical drawings, of the frigate HMS Blandford built in 1741.
A frigate was not large enough and insufficiently heavily armed to fight in the "line of battle".
