Granite County is a county located in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 2,830. Its county seat is Philipsburg6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,489 km˛ (1,733 mi˛). 4,474 km˛ (1,727 mi˛) of it is land and 15 km˛ (6 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.33% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,830 people, 1,200 households, and 784 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km˛ (2/mi˛). There are 2,074 housing units at an average density of 0/km˛ (1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 96.25% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 1.27% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.84% from two or more races. 1.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,200 households out of which 27.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.70% are married couples living together, 7.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.60% are non-families. 30.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
