Grant City is a town located in Worth County in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 926. It is the county seat of Worth County6.

Grant City is located at 40°29'9" North, 94°24'55" West (40.485931, -94.415219)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.3 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.3 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 926 people, 409 households, and 247 families residing in the town. The population density is 283.8/km˛ (735.2/mi˛). There are 499 housing units at an average density of 152.9/km˛ (396.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 99.03% White, 0.22% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 409 households out of which 27.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.4% are non-families. 36.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and the average family size is 2.82.


In the town the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 24.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 83.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.5 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $23,897, and the median income for a family is $29,943. Males have a median income of $22,813 versus $15,625 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,009. 17.2% of the population and 13.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.6% of those under the age of 18 and 16.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
