The name of this station is derived from the word "Granville", which, prior to Vancouver's inception as a city in 1886, was the original name of the settlement.


Granville Station is also a stop on the Chicago Transit Authority's Red Line in Chicago. Granville Station was opened in 1908, pre-dating the Vancouver system by 77 years. Location

The station is accessible from the surface via entrances on Granville St. or Seymour St. (between Georgia and Dunsmuir) or underground via the Pacific Centre Shopping Centre, through the downtown premises of the Hudson's Bay Company. Granville Station is the deepest underground in the SkyTrain system, and access is only by way of a long escalator. In the summer of 2006, elevator access will be introduced from Dunsmuir Street with the completion of the neighbouring Hudson on Granville development.
