In the fictional Star Wars universe, the Sarlacc is an ancient creature that lives in the Great Pit of Carkoon beneath the sands of the Dune Sea on the planet Tatooine.
There are apparantly other Sarlaccs on Tatooine and other planets, though the beast in the Great Pit of Carkoon appears to be the largest.
In the movie, Han Solo knocks the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett into the Great Pit with a force pike.
