The Greater Montreal Area is a term used to describe either the Montreal, Quebec, Canada Census Metropolitan Area or the Montreal Metropolitan Community (French: Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal) The CMA is defined by Statistics Canada while the Montreal Metropolitan Community is a level of government in Quebec, and is led by a president, who currently is Gérald Tremblay, mayor of Montreal. The Metropolitan Community covers an area of 3,838.489 sq. km. and has a population of 3,493,485 (estimate).
