The New York-Wayne-White Plains metropolitan division, a subdivision of the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island metropolitan statistical area, is composed of, in addition to the five boroughs of New York City, the counties of Westchester, Rockland , and Putnam in New York state, and Bergen , Passaic and Hudson in New Jersey. New York City, as well as its suburbs, have always been known for being very ethnically diverse areas, traditionally, the New York Area boasts high percentages of Italians, Irish, German, Polish, and Jewish populations, and the leading religion in this area is Roman Catholic. The states of New York , New Jersey, and Connecticut are all ranked among the top 10 fastest-growing immigration states in America, now with heavy Hispanic (particularly from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and increasingly from Mexico) and Asian (particularly Chinese, Pakistani and Indian American) minorities.
