Synopsis
Rusty Cartwright (Jacob Zachar) is a freshman in college, attending Cyprus-Rhodes University alongside big sister Casey (Spencer Grammer). Originally, no one even knew about Rusty until he arrived. Casey insisted that he remain low-profile, in hopes that he would not ruin her chances to be elected president of the Zeta Beta Zeta sorority. In an effort to make nice with the family, Casey's boyfriend, Evan (Jake McDorman), offers Rusty a spot in the Omega Chi Delta fraternity, which he declines after finding Evan cheating on Casey with Rebecca Logan (Dilshad Vadsaria), the Senator's daughter who was the sorority's main target during rush. In turn, Rusty accepts an offer from Cappie (Scott Foster), Casey's ex-boyfriend and the current president of Kappa Tau Gamma, the black sheep of the Greek system. Casey and Cappie often struggle with their feelings towards each other throughout the entire series, ultimately resulting in Evan breaking up with Casey, and Cappie sleeping with Rebecca Logan during the first season finale. To top things off Rusty's girl-friend, Jen K., publishes an article bashing the Greek system, by exposing hidden secrets of its members especially Zeta Beta Zeta (her own sorority). This causes an uproar in the "Greek's" and the University alike. As a result the Greek system at Cyprus-Rhodes becomes restricted, and looked down upon. To deal with Jen K.'s betrayal Rusty dumps her. As the second season began the Cartwrights find that they have to pick up the pieces of last semester. Rusty has to deal with his break up with Jen K. and Casey has to deal with reconstructing Zeta Beta Zeta's reputation. Casey also gets crowned ZBZ president after offering to step down. Name of the show ABC advertises the name of the show with the Greek letter "Sigma" to spell the title GRΣΣK (since Sigma resembles an E in the Latin alphabet) instead of Epsilon, which is much the same in appearance and function as E. Taken literally, the name of the show is actually GRSSK, since Sigma is the Greek letter equivalent of the Latin S. The name of the show would have to be spelled either GREEK or ΓΡEEK to be correct in English or Greek, respectively. This practice is comparable to that of faux Cyrillic.
