GreeneCounty was created by the first state legislature on 1819 Dec. 13, from part of the land ceded to the Federal government by the Choctaw Cession of 1816 Oct. 24.
GreeneCounty is located in the west-central portion of the state, between the Tombigbee and Black Warrior Rivers.
It is bordered by Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Hale, Marengo, and Sumter counties.
Albany County was an enormous county, including the northern part of New York State as well as all of the present State of Vermont and, in theory, extending westward to the Pacific Ocean.
Albany County was reduced in size in 1786 by the splitting off of Columbia County; again in 1791 by the splitting off of Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties and the transfer of the Town of Cambridge to Washington County.
In the county the population was spread out with 23.00% under the age of 18, 9.50% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 15.70% who were 65 years of age or older.
