Personal life
Son of a chartered accountant and a teacher (Edward and Anne Hemphill, née Brophy)[1], Hemphill was born in Glasgow, Scotland but left at age six[2], spending much of his childhood in Montreal, Canada, which has contributed to his distinctive Scottish-Canadian accent. He returned to Scotland to study at Glasgow University where he achieved a MA Honours Degree in theatre, film and television. He is married to the actress Julie Wilson Nimmo. They have two sons; Benny in 2001 and Chevy in 2005. Career Hemphill has appeared in several projects. In 1990, he appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe where he was given the "So You Think You're Funny" trophy.
