Gregorio Conrado Álvarez Armelino (born November 26, 1926 in Montevideo) was a Uruguayan general and political figure.
Álvarez, was, in fact the sole serving military officer among the five individuals who became president of Uruguay in the civilian-military administration that lasted from 1973 to 1985: these were: Juan María Bordaberry, Alberto Demichelli, Aparicio Méndez, Álvarez, and Rafael Addiego Bruno.
In July 2006 Álvarez's residence in Montevideo became the focal point for demonstrators protesting the disappearance of opponents of the 1973-1985 civilian-military administration.
