Grigoris Bithikotsis (Γρηγόρης Μπιθικώτσης) (December 11, 1922 - April 7, 2005) was a popular Greek folk singer, one of the greatest in his country. Born in Peristeri, Athens, in 1922, he was of poor family. He met composer Mikis Theodorakis in 1959 and cooperated, producing great folk songs. Bithikotsis composed over 80 songs, including: Stu Belami to ouzeri, Tha simanoun oi kampanes, Toy Votanikou o magas, Axion Esti and much more. A leftist, he was exiled on the island of Macronisos in 1950s. He died in Athens, in 2005, following 3 months of hospitalization.
