Nobleman Tomasz Grodziski founded a church in a village existing at that time; the first written mentions about Grodzisk.

July 22, 1522

Grodzisk obtained civic rights from King Sigismund I the Old thanks to the efforts of the two Okuń brothers - then owners of the city.

1623

The city became property of the Mokronowski family. The period lasting until the mid-18th century was the most difficult in the history of Grodzisk, which was repeatedly ravaged by wars, cholera epidemics and famine.

June 14, 1845

Opening of the first section of the Warsaw-Vienna Railroad. Fast connection between Grodzisk and Warsaw contributed to a dynamic growth of the city. It became a destination of many trips and a gateway for residents of the capital.

1881

Opening of the first factory in Grodzisk. Since that time the city has gradually become one of the most powerful industrial centers in southwest Mazovia.

1884

Dr. Michał Bojasiński opened the Hydrotherapy Department in Jordanowice bordering Grodzisk. Around the health resort an elegant villa district was developed, featuring summer residences of affluent industrialists from Warsaw.

1889

Well-known Polish painter, Józef Chełmoński, moved in to the nearby village of Kuklówka, celebrating the beauty of the Grodzisk area on his numerous paintings.

1927

Grodzisk obtained an additional connection with Warsaw thanks to the second railway line (Electrical Access Railway - today's WKD). The biggest businesses of Grodzisk at that time included the existing to this day "Słoń" Production Plant manufacturing abrasive materials and "Grodzisk" Chemical Plant - today's "Polfa".

January 17, 1945

Liberation of Grodzisk from the Nazi occupation, which during 5 years resulted in loss of more than 5,000 local residents.

1990

Return of an authentic self-government to the municipality, marking the beginning of a fast and versatile development of the city, which changed its image and utilized its opportunity once again in its history.
