Girogio Grongnet de Vassé, (1774 - 1882), his name often spelled as Giorgio,
was Maltese architect, who designed a massive church - rotunda of St Marija Assunta in Mosta, Malta. It has one of the largest unsupported domes in the world, with a diameter of 40m. Grongnet's plans were closely based on the Pantheon in Rome. In 1854 he claimed that the Maltese Islands are the remnants of Atlantis.
