The GER is calculated by dividing the total number of students enrolled at each level (regardless of age) by the population of the age group that should be enrolled at that level at the start of the academic year. Example: - Locale A has 950,000 pupils enrolled in primary education in the academic year 2005/06.
- Locale A should have 1,000,000 pupils enrolled.
GER = number of actual students enrolled / number of potential students enrolled - = (950,000 / 1,000,000) = 0.95
- = 0.95 * 100 = 95%
