Explanation
Grungers are a subculture connected by a common taste in music, clothes, shared interests and values like many youth subcultures. Grungers tend to be regarded as messy, lazy and apathetic towards life. The first generation of Grunger's during the early 90's were a part of Generation X. The grunger subculture does not truly have one iconic figure above all others, although the original grunge music explosion had Kurt Cobain. Krist Novoselic has expressed the view that the term came from Mark Arm.[citation needed] In sociology, anthropology and cultural studies, a subculture is a set of people with distinct sets of behavior and beliefs that differentiate them from a larger culture of which they are a part. ...

Origins The term Grunger derives from the fans of the Seattle, Washington Grunge movement in America. The first traces of the Grunge subcultures began popping up as early as 1987 when the first Grunge bands began arriving on the music scene. The first grungers came from Seattle, Washington and small rural areas around these cities.
Clothes The most common style of dress that Grungers adopt is the use of old clothing and a DIY ethic. Common forms of clothing that come up in the Grunge subculture is the use of old ripped and torn jeans, flanell shirts (usually unbuttoned), old plain T-shirts, old sweaters and jumpers. They also wear hi-top boots such as Converse and Doc Martens. The origin of the use of old flanellette jackets is from the cold weather in the rural towns surrounding Washington and Seattle where some of the leading Grunge bands originated from!
