Grzegorz Fitelberg za swoją działalność artystyczną został odznaczony Orderem Krzyża Oficerskiego Polonia Restituta (1928), Orderem Złotego Krzyża Zasługi (1932), Orderem Komandorii z Gwiazdą Polonia Restituta (1947) i Orderem Sztandaru Pracy I klasy (1950).
Fitelberg zna wybornie orkiestrę i umie wydobyć z niej bardzo głębokie nastroje przejmujace do szpiku kości - wszystko bowiem co pisze, swiadczy na każdym kroku, że kompozytor nie ilustruje na zimno poematu Gorkiego, lecz że tworzy pod presją wewnetrznej konieczności; to muzyka pisana krwią serdeczną.
Wobec młodej muzyki polskiej Fitelberg spełniał rolę prawdziwej instytucji propagandowej, bez której trudno byłoby twórcom w owym czasie rozwinąć swe talenty i zdobyć konieczne doświadczenia.
