Guadalupe County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 89,023. Its county seat is Seguin6. Guadalupe is named for the Guadalupe River.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,850 km˛ (714 mi˛). 1,842 km˛ (711 mi˛) of it is land and 8 km˛ (3 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.42% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 89,023 people, 30,900 households, and 23,823 families residing in the county. The population density is 48/km˛ (125/mi˛). There are 33,585 housing units at an average density of 18/km˛ (47/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 77.65% White, 5.01% Black or African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 12.76% from other races, and 3.07% from two or more races. 33.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 30,900 households out of which 38.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.60% are married couples living together, 11.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.90% are non-families. 18.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.23.


In the county, the population is spread out with 28.50% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 29.10% from 25 to 44, 22.20% from 45 to 64, and 11.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 97.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.30 males.


The median income for a household in the county is $43,949, and the median income for a family is $49,645. Males have a median income of $32,450 versus $23,811 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,430. 9.80% of the population and 7.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.30% of those under the age of 18 and 9.50% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
