Guadiana (Latin Anas, Spanish Guadiana, Portuguese Guadiana) - one of the major rivers of Spain, part of it is the border with Portugal, ends in the Atlantic Ocean.
The GuadianaRiver basin has a total drainage area of 66 800 km2 of which 11 580 km2 are located in southeastern Portugal.
Of the total needs for irrigation and domestic water supply in the Guadiana basin, 19% are in Portugal and 81% in Spain, while 25% of the average annual discharge is generated in Portugal and 75% in Spain.
There are 1,824 dams in the Guadianariver basin, of which 86 are major dams that retain about 150% of the average annual rainfall.
Badajoz, España — Greenpeace recaló hoy en Badajoz para denunciar que el tramo pacense del Guadiana es el más afectado del río por contaminación y por ocupación del cauce con vertidos sólidos urbanos.
Esta visita se enmarca dentro del Descenso del Guadiana que Greenpeace comenzó el pasado 20 de octubre en su nacimiento.
Los resultados demostraron la falta de depuración de estas aguas que vierten directamente al Guadiana.
