History

It was formed in November 1843 as the municipal guard. In 1907 it became the Urban Guard.

Originally their policemen were armed with a sabre, pistol, rifle and a bayonet but following events in 1909 the force was disarmed.

During the early twentieth century the force copied the British policeman’s uniform^[1].
