Guariba is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. Its latitude is 21.65/21°21'36" S and the longitude is 48.125/48°13'42" W. The population in 2004 is 32,200 and the area is 271.22 km² The elevation is 618 m. This place name comes from the Tupi language.

The village of Guariba, founded by four families in the late 1950s, lies on the northern channel of the Amazon estuary, a vast, island-filled delta that stretches nearly three hundred miles across the enormous Bay of Marajo.
When the founders of Guariba arrived forty years ago, the river from which the community takes its name was, as one resident put it, a besteira (a silly little thing) that children could wade in at low tide.
Guariba is one place in Amazonia where people have intervened in nature to change the rivers and streams with dramatic results.
