Gubkin is accused of shooting businessman Boris Yegorov at the entrance of his Vladivostok apartment block on May 15 last year, while on a visit to the city during the gubernatorial elections.
Gubkin was arrested in Moscow last July after a witness gave police the number plate of a car seen leaving the scene.
