The Guge ruins, covering 720,000 square metres atop a 300-metre hill, have since falling prey to the attacks of nature, their many mysteries still unsolved.
All this, said Zhang, was likely to arouse concern among the royal family of Guge and may have contributed to their decision to turn a new religion to counter the rising Buddhist power, when the Christian missionaries arrived in their remote corner of the world.

Guge, or Tsamda (Zhada), is one of the three regions of Ngari, situated to the South-west of Mount Kailash and bordering India on the west.
Guge was a regional kingdom, which was established in the 10th century after the monarchy of Tibet collapsed.
While he was in prison, the news reached the Guge Kingdom and Jangchup Od went to Gorlog and visited the imprisoned Lha Lama Yeshi-O. Jangchup-O informed him that the Guge Kingdom had collected an amount of gold but they had not yet gathered as much as the size of his head.
