Sir Gustav Graves is a fictional villain in the twentieth James Bond film Die Another Day. He is played by Toby Stephens. An unusual feature of this villain is that Graves appears to be younger than James Bond. In general, Bond villains are roughly the same age or considerably older than Bond (with Elektra King in The World Is Not Enough a notable exception). He is also the first Bond villain to be portrayed by two different actors in the same film. Biography Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. Sir Gustav Graves is a sophisticated, sarcastic and, even according to Graves himself, arrogant business man. His official story is that he is an orphan who worked in diamond mines in Argentina; from there, he discovered a great mine of diamonds in Iceland and made a huge fortune. With that fortune, Graves develops Icarus, a big satellite which could take solar energy and focus it, "gently", over the Earth, supposedly putting an end to weather inconvenience and poverty, helping the harvests and so on. The presentation of Icarus is held at the outside of an ice castle in Iceland, built specially for the occasion. For other uses, see Diamond (disambiguation). ...

The truth, however, is that Sir Gustav Graves is really Colonel Tan-Sun Moon, a North Korean soldier, son of a high General, who studied at Oxford and Harvard and was intended to become a bridge between the West and the East. Back in North Korea Moon became a weapons dealer with the intention of invading and conquering South Korea. Moon exchanged the weapons for conflict diamonds from Sierra Leone until Bond found out, went after him and tried to kill him. It appears that Moon died in the chase at the beginning of the movie, but somehow he survived and fled to Cuba, where he received genetic therapy that changed his appearance. At this point he became Gustav Graves. The diamonds that he supposedly discovered in Iceland are, actually, the conflict diamonds, and Icarus is, in fact, a powerful weapon capable of concentrating all the Sun's energy in one point. With this, he intends to clean the mined demilitarized zone between North and South Korea and open the way for North Korean troops. He also has a special electro suit made for him. In a plane, Graves/Moon even electrocutes and finally kills his own father when he opposes the plan. North Korea, officially the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK; Korean: Chosŏn Minjujuŭi Inmin Konghwaguk; Hangul: 조선민주주의인민공화국; Hanja: 朝鮮民主主義人民共和國), is a country in eastern Asia, covering the northern half of the peninsula of Korea. ...
