Relationships

Caroline

As far as Guy was originally concerned, his first thoughts about Caroline were to have sex with her, like he does with nearly every woman in the hospital. He first met her during an operation, during which her mother phoned her on her mobile. Guy learns that Caroline has not got a home to go, so he offers his spare room for the night. When Caroline arrives however, she realises that Guy was lying, and was just hoping to end up having sex with her. In the end, Caroline slept in Guy’s bed, and Guy slept on the sofa.

The following day, Guy gave Caroline a lift to the hospital. Caroline made it clear to him that she did not want anyone to know that she spent the night at his place. However, she accidentally sets off Guy’s car alarm, attracting attention from all over. Guy as a result started spreading rumours that they did have sex. Caroline tried to stop him by making him sign a document saying that he did sleep on the sofa and did not have sex with Caroline. When Guy refuses, Caroline tells him that she knows something she should not. Guy assumes it was his night of passion with Sue White, which he tells Caroline, but she then tells him it was only information about his middle name being Valerie. Guy is thus forced to sign.

In time, Guy seems to appear more attractive to Caroline. They even kiss at her housewarming party. She also understands some of the problems he had as a child. Caroline notices that Guy never wears a mask during operations, claiming that he does have an emotional mask, and uses an analogy of layers in an onion, saying that, "If you peel the layers away, you get to the real Guy". Guy replies by saying, "Oh my God! You're the first person to see through my onion layers". As a result of this, Guy and Caroline took the afternoon off. Guy tried to impress Caroline, but it only lead to her moving further away from him, and more towards Mac. After the accident, and Mac loses his memory, Guy upsets Caroline by trying to make Mac think they are married, and later is forced by Sue to lie to Mac about them previously hating each other, but Mac learns the truth from Boyce. Analogy is either the cognitive process of transferring information from a particular subject (the analogue or source) to another particular subject (the target), or a linguistic expression corresponding to such a process. ...

When Angela leaves the hospital, it is Guy who tells Caroline that Holly has left her husband. On the same day, Caroline reluctantly gives Guy her spare room and he becomes her lodger. During his time there, Guy becomes increasingly besotted with Caroline, and became jealous when Jake went on a date with her, to the extent that he threw a Swiss army knife in his head. When Caroline left Jake, Guy was one of three people (Mac and Martin being the others) who made a marriage proposal to her, to which she said she would think about it. When she went a train station expecting to meet Mac, he failed to arrive, but Guy turned up, wanting to see, "What I might have had if I where more ginger". Due to Mac's failure to turn up, Caroline accepted Guy's proposal.

Mac

Guy and Mac have a strong love/hate relationship. They often argue about who is the most important person during the operation. Guy often claims his job of keeping the patient asleep is the most important, whereas Mac takes the view that the actual operation, and his work is more central to the operation. They often play silly games together to prove who is the greatest, such as running through a swimming pool, Guyball and "The Spoons of Destiny", where they put a spoon in their mouth and try to fill a bowl of sugar as quick as they can. Guy even plays Battleships with him when he is in his coma. Dr Guy Secretan (Stephen Mangan) wearing his international-standard topmiler. ... This article is about a battleship as a type of warship. ...

Although they get on for most of the time, Mac normally steps in to stop Guy bullying Martin. When he lied to Martin about passing his exams, Mac threw coffee over him and then Guy’s head against the lockers, before the half-brothers hugged.

There most famous bet occurred before Mac was meant to move to Sheffield, when he bet his first months consultancy wages that Guy could not sleep with Joanna. Guy did win the bet; the incident did lead to the ambulance accident. The tape, which he gave to Martin eventually ended up in the hands of Sue, who uses it a blackmail to make him stop Mac's relationship with Caroline, which worked with only limited success.

When Guy started to fall in love with Caroline, Guy tried on several occasions to stop Mac from what he thought was his attempt at proposing, but they never were.

Sue

Of all the characters in Green Wing, Guy is the most confrontational with Sue. This might have originated from their one night of passion which he once let slip in front of Caroline. Sue often teases him about it. From what Guy told Caroline, they did several things, including oral and anal sex.

Since then, Guy has often been the rudest person Sue has encountered. He once went into his office, told her that she liked "fuck all" about her, and just left.

There have been a few times when Sue has had the upper hand in their relationship. She once bought him in a charity slave auction for £50, and made him wear a ginger wig to look like Mac. When she had possession of the tape of him and Joanna having sex, Sue demanded Guy to give her the secret of fire and to break up Mac's relationship with Caroline, but he failed.

Joanna

Guy had very little to do with Joanna because he considered her to be too old for him. It was only after making a bet with Mac that he had sex with her. Unfortunately a letter he received (which Martin opened) confirmed that they were mother and son.

Afterwards, they tried to avoid each other, but Joanna had to be present at Guy's tribunal. During the tribunal, Guy mentioned that "On the plus side, I should be getting my Noel Coward style dressing gown back", a remark which made Joanna hit her head on the table.

Martin

Before and after they discovered they were half-brothers, Guy constantly bullied Martin. He kept making insults, giving him bad or irrelevant advice, and constantly made it clear that he thought that he was going to fail his exams.

When Martin did get his exam results back, Guy lied to Martin about passing them. It was left to Mac to sort the mess out. Guy still bullies Martin however.

Other Relationships

Boyce is one of Guy's close friends and often chats to him. He is not as friendly with Angela but he still gets on with her.

Guy does not really get involved with Alan, or with the human resources department, although he did once have sex with Rachel.

It is known that he does not like other male staff members getting in the way of his love making attempts, so he does not get on well with Lyndon Jones or Jake Leaf.

He does not come into contact with many of his school friends, but one person, Dominic Caver, does visit the hospital. Dominic is deaf, and it was from this encounter where he learned sign language, but Guy does not like him because "He twitches whenever he talks".

In the world of Guyball, Markus Guisler is his biggest opponent. The only time they have been known to meet was when Guy told Mac that he walked over him in the first round in the World Championships because he had shin splints. Shin splints is a colloquial term which refers to pain in the anterior and medial areas of the lower leg. ...
