Hackberry is a census-designated place located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,699.
Geography Hackberry is located at 29°59'11" North, 93°23'50" West (29.986485, -93.397190)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 242.7 km˛ (93.7 mi˛). 213.0 km˛ (82.2 mi˛) of it is land and 29.6 km˛ (11.4 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 12.21% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,699 people, 626 households, and 458 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 8.0/km˛ (20.7/mi˛). There are 818 housing units at an average density of 3.8/km˛ (9.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.53% White, 0.47% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 626 households out of which 34.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.21.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males.
