In Greek mythology, King Haemus (or Haimos) of Thrace was the son of Boreas. He was vain and haughty and compared himself and his wife, Rhodope, to Zeus and Hera. They changed him into mountains (Haemus Mons and Rhodope Mountains, respectively).
