Haman (Persian "magnificent") was a 6th Century BCE Persian noble and vizier of the empire under Persian King Ahasuerus, generally identified as Xerxes I.
Haman was also an astrologer, and when he was about to fix the time for the massacre of the Jews he first cast lots to ascertain which was the most auspicious day of the week for that purpose.
Haman is also mentioned six times in the Qur'an, as an intimate of Pharaoh and a sinner in the time of Moses.
