Personal

Hamilton survived a personal struggle with two kinds of cancer after his service to Carter. He and his wife, a pediatric oncology nurse, founded a camp for children with cancer - Camp Sunshine Retreat - in Georgia. He is an honorary board member of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. He has three children Hamilton, Kathleen, and Alex. Cancer is a class of diseases or disorders characterized by uncontrolled division of cells and the ability of these to spread, either by direct growth into adjacent tissue through invasion, or by implantation into distant sites by metastasis (where cancer cells are transported through the bloodstream or lymphatic system). ... As a junior at the University of Connecticut, the 6-7 Hamilton led the Huskies to the NCAA Championship in 1999.
Hamilton, who was named the Most Outstanding Player in the 1999 Final Four, made himself eligible for the NBA Draft the following Spring and was drafted seventh overall by the Wizards.
Hamilton has made major strides this season and was recognized by the NBA when they named him the Eastern Conference Player of the Week (Dec. 17).
