Hammon is a town located in Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 469.

Hammon is located at 35°37'57" North, 99°22'53" West (35.632369, -99.381267)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 469 people, 169 households, and 114 families residing in the town. The population density is 244.7/km² (637.0/mi²). There are 203 housing units at an average density of 105.9/km² (275.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 60.77% White, 0.64% African American, 34.54% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.71% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. 5.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 169 households out of which 33.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% are married couples living together, 16.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% are non-families. 29.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.49.


In the town the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 108.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.8 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $22,604, and the median income for a family is $28,036. Males have a median income of $22,250 versus $20,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,184. 34.8% of the population and 31.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 44.8% of those under the age of 18 and 19.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
