Hanam was licensed in 1987 by the SBA as a Minority Enterprise Small Business Investment Company, or what was later called a Specialized Small Business Investment Company, in order to provide long term capital to small businesses owned by socially or economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs who often have lacked access to the capital markets.
Although Hanam has since converted to a regular SBIC in order to broaden its investment horizons, Hanam's primary focus continues to be providing long term loans to Asian/American owned small businesses in the New York Metropolitan area.
