Encyclopedia > Harmar's Defeat

Harmar was particularly not expecting to face defeat when he bravely marched his force straight into the heart of the territory of the Three Fires Confederation, to battle the Three Fires Confederation and their ever increasingly discontented allies. He ordered his force to split into two groups with the one group under Harding being defeated by the Three Fires Confederation, while afterwards, Harmars force suffered the same consequence that fell upon Hardings force. The Three Fires Confederation inflicted close to 200 casualties on Harmars force with most killed in battle. American casualties during the two intense battles were close to 400. Harmar was definitely disappointed after losing those two battles, and its likely that the Americans were seeking other methods to deal with the powerful Three Fires Confederation during that time period. Blue Jacket may have been an important Shawnee leader but Blue Jacket was white, and the Americans obviously were not unaware of Blue Jackets seat of power among the dissatisfied Shawnee people. Blue Jacket apparently raised the young Tecumseh after Tecumsehs father was killed in battle, and Tecumseh is presently considered to have been a powerful leader among the Ohio Indians during the War of 1812. Tecumeseh may have been a powerful leader among the Ohio Indians during the War of 1812, but as for being the leader of the Three Fires Confederation during the War of 1812, we would all be wise to think otherwise. When England bravely invaded the territory of the powerful Three Fires Confederation during the early 1750s they may have known then, that they would pay a horrific price. Anywhere from 15,000 to 20,000 whites became a casualty during the wars fought for the territory of the powerful Three Fires Confederation between 1755 and 1815, with most being white settlers killed when they bravely settled the land of the Three Fires Confederation during those years.
