HarrisCounty is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown Metropolitan Area.
HarrisCounty is named for John Richardson Harris, an early settler of the area.
In the county, the population is spread out with 29.00% under the age of 18, 10.30% from 18 to 24, 33.40% from 25 to 44, 19.80% from 45 to 64, and 7.40% who are 65 years of age or older.
HarrisCounty (G-11), originally Harrisburg County, is located on the upper Gulf Coast in Southeast Texas and is bounded by Waller County on the north and west, Montgomery County on the north, Liberty and Chambers counties on the east, Galveston and Brazoria counties on the south, and Fort Bend County on the west.
The county comprises 1,778 square miles (1,729 in land) and is the largest Texas county east of the Nueces River.
County agriculture embraces 50,000 irrigated acres planted in rice, soybeans, grains, hay, corn, and vegetables.
