Hartville is located at 42°19'36" North, 104°43'40" West (42.326783, -104.727790)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 km˛ (0.3 mi˛). 0.7 km˛ (0.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 76 people, 35 households, and 22 families residing in the town. The population density is 104.8/km˛ (272.2/mi˛). There are 52 housing units at an average density of 71.7/km˛ (186.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 89.47% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 6.58% from other races, and 3.95% from two or more races. 22.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 35 households out of which 25.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.1% are non-families. 37.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and the average family size is 2.82.


In the town the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 1.3% from 18 to 24, 22.4% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 34.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 51 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $25,000, and the median income for a family is $13,750. Males have a median income of $26,667 versus $0 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,116. 28.4% of the population and 36.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 35.3% of those under the age of 18 and 20.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Society member Barb Costopoulos, and long-time supporter of the WSHS presented an interesting program "The Past and Present in Platte County", describing the communities and businesses in the county and informed this year's WSHS trekkers about the fascinating historical historical sites in Platte County to be explored by the two bus tour groups on Saturday.
Hartville is the oldest incorporated town in Wyoming, and short walk up main street a quick visit for photos was made to the Miners' and Stockmen's Bar - the "Oldest Bar" in Wyoming.
Wyoming State Historical Society 2001 trekkers were treated to the exploration of other other Guernsey State Park Civilian Conservation Corps buildings fashioned in a similar style to that of the museum, including "The Castle" with its giant fireplace on the first floor with carved rock benches and winding steps to an observation area.
